وهي إحدى السور الخمس التي بدأت بحمد الله (الحمد لله) بالإضافة إلى سورة الفاتحة والأنعام وسبأ وفاتر.

سميت بهذا من الآية التاسعة التي تقتبس من قصة أهل الكهف: (هل تدرك أن أهل الكهف والرقم كانوا عجائب من آياتنا؟ ".

- ماذا تعرف عن ذي القرنين؟ تأتي هذه القصص من تقاليد أهل الكتاب الآخرين (اليهود والنصارى) وهي غير معروفة لعرب قريش. وفي نهاية السورة دعا الله الكافرين للاستفادة من قصصه والإيمان برسالة نبيه - صلى الله عليه وسلم -: `` تفرد الخالق والآخرة حقيقة مطلقة. من أجل مصلحتك ، يجب أن تؤمن بهم ، وأن تمتثل لما تتضمنه في حياتك ، وأن تتصرف في الإيمان بأنك ستكون مسؤولاً أمام الله. إذا لم تمتثل ، فسوف تضيع حياتك هنا وسيضيع كل ما تفعله.
