Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi was a prominent Islamic scholar, author, and activist born in Daryabad, India in 1892. He was the son of Maulana Abdul Ali, a renowned Islamic scholar and member of the Indian National Congress.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi received his early education at home, under the tutelage of his father. He later attended the Aligarh Muslim University, where he studied Arabic, Persian, and Islamic studies. He also became involved in the Indian independence movement, joining the Indian National Congress and working closely with Mahatma Gandhi.

In 1917, Abdul Majid Daryabadi founded the journal Sachchidananda, which became an important platform for his writings on Islam and the social and political issues facing India at the time. He also translated numerous Islamic texts into Urdu and English, including the Quranic exegesis Tafsir ul-Quran, which he worked on for over 30 years and is considered one of his most important works.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi was known for his moderate and progressive views, and his efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and understanding. He was a vocal critic of religious extremism and sectarianism, and advocated for a more inclusive and tolerant Islam.

In addition to his scholarly and literary pursuits, Abdul Majid Daryabadi was also involved in social and political activism. He played a key role in the Khilafat movement, which sought to preserve the authority of the Ottoman Caliphate following World War I. He was also a supporter of Indian independence and served as a member of the Constituent Assembly of India.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi passed away in 1977, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential Islamic scholars and thinkers of his time. His contributions to Islamic scholarship, interfaith dialogue, and social and political activism continue to be celebrated and studied to this day.
