لقد ميز الله الإنسان بالبلاغة، ونعم عليه بالتعبير عن نفسه بوضوح. ويستطيع بفضل ربه أن يتكلم بفصاحة وفصاحة. وبالبلاغة انتقل الإنسان من مرحلة الحيوان الأخرس إلى مرحلة البليغ،

وبما أن الكلمات (الكلمة) هي حجر الزاوية في هذه البلاغة، فإن استخدامها بحكمة هو أمر فضيلة، والعكس صحيح. وعن أبي هريرة أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «إن الرجل ليتكلم بالكلمة لا يلتفت إليها يحبها الله وترفع بها درجاته. وعلى العكس من ذلك، فإن الرجل أحياناً يقول كلمة لا يعنيها، فيغضب الله ويدخله النار. يمكن للكلمة (كلمة) أن تشير، في اللغة العربية، إلى مصطلح يستخدم في سياق معين؛ وكذلك يمكن أن يرجع إلى جملة، مثل شهادة الإيمان "لا إله إلا الله"، كلمة الإيمان الخالص. وهذا يلخص أهمية الكلام.
