It is a methodology, based solely on the Qur'ân , the Sunna and the consensus of the Companions, while rejecting analogy and individual opinion in all their forms.
The Book of Foundations of Jurisprudence According to Zahirite Methodology, by Abu Muhammad Ali Ibn Hazm, " Kitab U sul al-fiqh " (كتاب أصول الفقه), Dar Al Andalus
Ibn _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Hazm outlines and briefly explains the unique legal principles on which its approach is based. However, it is not a question of the principles of a school in its own right, since Ibn Hazm rejected imitation ( taqlîd ) , but rather a methodology, solely based on the Qur'ân , the Sunna and the consensus of the Companions, while rejecting analogy and individual opinion in all their forms. Ibn Hazm indeed followed the so-called " literalist " path of the Ahl az-Zâhir (or zahirites ) , so named because they only stuck to the zâhir , that is to say, to the apparent and manifest meaning of the Qur' an and the Sunnah.
About the author: Ibn Hazm
Undoubtedly one of the greatest scholars of Islamic civilization - although one of the most atypical -, the illustrious Andalusian polymath Ibn Hazm marked his time by his non-conformity, his uncompromising political commitment, his many heated debates and his major contributions to knowledge – in the field of Islamic sciences, of course, but also comparative religious studies, medicine, logic or even the art of love.
