What haven't we heard about the shari'a? The shari'a would be the strict application of Koranic laws! Shari'a is chopping off hands and stoning women! The strict application of the shari'a or its application at all would be the distinguishing line between fundamentalists and moderates!
The fundamentalists would be those who call for the application of this famous shari'a while the moderates are those who turn their backs on it, or at least apply only certain aspects of it, with moderation, because the abuse of the shari'a would harm seriously to human rights.
How did what was revealed as mercy for the universe come to express terror? How did the shari'a become the most negative symbol of Islam? How was the shari'a, designated as the Koranic law, reduced to the penal code when the verses evoking this aspect do not exceed thirty verses out of the 6236 verses composing the Holy Book, that is- that is, less than 0.5% of the noble Quran?!
About the author: Moncef Zenati
Born June 11, 1970 in Le Havre. A graduate in mathematics and Islamic sciences, he is currently a teacher and head of the distance Islamic studies department in French at the IESH in Château-Chinon. Founding member of the Havre de Savoir association, he is also the author of several books including "La Sunna: mode d'emploi"
