The Muqaddima of Ibn Abî Zayd al-Qayrawânî: is the first chapter of a very famous book which is the Risâla of the same author. This book is a major reference in Malikite jurisprudence. This great scholar had devoted the first part of this Risâla to exposing the foundations of authentic Sunni belief. We present to readers this introduction, this Muqaddima , together with the explanation given by Sheikh 'Abd al-Muhsin al-'Abbâd.
The author Abû Muhammad 'Abd Allah ibn Abî Zayd al-Qayrawânî: was born in 922 and died in 996 in Kairouan in Ifriqiya (now Tunisia) . He was a famous Malikite jurist and was even nicknamed the little Mâlik , because his book the Risâla became an essential reference in Malikite jurisprudence. He was also a staunch defender of authentic Sunni belief through his writings, which weakened the spread of Shiism in the 10th century in northern Africa.
The commentator, Sheikh 'Abd al-Muhsin al-'Abbâd: was born in 1934 in Zulfi (north-west of Riyadh) and is an eminent scholar of Medina teaching until today within the Prophetic Mosque. It constitutes, in the holy city, an indisputable religious authority. When the Islamic University was founded in 1961, he became one of its first teachers before becoming vice-president of the same university for six years from 1973 to 1979.
