How to Defeat Waswas - The Devil's Breathings
Author: Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya - Translation: Hood Jhoumka - Excerpt from: The Ruses of Satan - Editions: Al-Hadith
Objective of the book How to overcome waswas
The objective of this book, "How to overcome waswâs" by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya, translated by Hood Jhoumka and published by Al-Hadith Editions, is to help readers understand and overcome wasâwis, these obsessions and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) which comes from Satan. These diabolical insufflations and insinuations aim to sow confusion, doubt and push believers into exaggeration or negligence, especially in the areas of prayer and purification. By providing practical advice and religious clarification, the author wishes to help Muslims avoid these insidious traps and practice their faith with serenity and confidence.
Editor's preface
Whatever the names we give them and the ways in which we qualify them – obsessions, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), these little things which sometimes give us a bad conscience, these fleeting ideas which sometimes sow doubt in us –, these wasâwis come mainly from our sworn enemy: Satan himself.
This has no other goal, through its diabolical insufflations and insinuations, than to mislead us, to sow confusion in our minds, to make us doubt everything, to push us sometimes to exaggeration, which is prohibited in our religion which is ease and mercy, and sometimes to negligence. Mainly in the two areas that concern Ibn al-Qayyim here: prayer and purification.
Waswâs or waswasa is in fact one of the many and most insidious traps of the devil, to which this epistle taken from our book “The wiles of Satan” by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya is dedicated.
