Supererogatory actions according to Abderrazak Mahri: Before getting to the heart of the matter and developing in great detail the subject of this book, namely supererogatory works in Islam, it is essential to start by laying down some principles and rules of the science known as the usul (foundations of jurisprudence), and to define the meaning of certain terms.
Supererogatory actions according to Abderrazak Mahri:
The Arabic term nafila designates what is additional, what is done in supererogation, in addition to what one is required to do. Many people think that the term nafila refers exclusively to supererogatory prayers, but the truth is that every worship act has its own nafila which is, in a way, dependent on it.
Thus, the branch of expenses on the Way of God (sabil allah) includes zakat which is an obligatory work participating in the five pillars of Islam, but also all the other expenses that one makes to be approved by God.
This remark is also valid for fasting and pilgrimage. The Prophet (SWS) said about this last pillar: “Pilgrimage is obligatory only once in life. For anyone who performs it more than once, it will be counted as a supererogatory work. »
