Supreme Piety in the Observance of the Duties of God (the expression of the believer's adoration and gratitude to Allah ) , by Al Hârith Al-Muhâsibî , Translation of the book: " Ar-Ri'âya Li-Huqûqi-llah (الرعاية لحقوق الله )

In our (post-modern) era, the range of rights has greatly expanded. There are rights for animals as well as for men, natural rights as well as unnatural rights , and everyone is entitled to rights. The only missing in this long list of rights holders is the Creator. Some deny Him the right to exist, others deny Him the right to intervene in the lives of His creatures. Others assign partners to Him, denying Him the exclusive right to His work.

In the 9th century, a disciple questions al-Muhâsibî on the rights of God. The great master replies: "As for your question about the observance of the rights of God and the fact of fulfilling them, know that it is a serious question, and that most people of your time l 'have neglected... ' Then, this book was the answer to this question where it exposes and develops the rights of God in Islam and emphasizes the interest that the faithful has in observing them and the regrets that result of their negligence... And that in view of the benefits of God, the observance of rights is nothing else for the worthy Man than an opportunity to express his recognition, his gratitude and his attachment to God... So thank you and Praise be to God for having “ existenced ” us and for having given us so much…

Al-Harith Ibn Asad Al-Muhâsibî ( d . in 857 JC ) is considered one of the great Muslim scholars, he distinguished himself by his deep knowledge of the human soul. He wrote a lot about it. In the way of returning to God he incessantly advocated the examination of conscience (al Muhâsaba ) for the best remedy for the evils of the soul ( nafs ) to the point that he was nicknamed Al-Muhâsibî (the one who constantly weighs himself ) .
