“The problem of culture does not arise at all, for us, in the abstract, in the theater, in the cinema, in the study of a novelist or in the style of a folk dance, but in the concrete of our daily work, on a construction site, in a field we plow, in the school where we send our children, in the streets we pass, on the trains we take, in short wherever there is some form of of our life and our manual or intellectual activities.
For us, it is about providing content, not only to our leisure activities, but above all to our essential activities. Finally, and in a word, our subject does not concern a certain area, but the entire social framework where our life and activities take place and where the multiple problems that grip our minds under the name of “underdevelopment” are formed. »
About the author : Malek Bennabi
Malek Bennabi (1905-1973) studied at length the problems of civilization in general and those of the Muslim world. Strongly imbued with Arab-Muslim and Western culture, we owe him the concept of “ colonizability ”, a concept characterizing societies in decadence. He has to his credit more than twenty works dealing with civilization, culture, ideology in general and problems linked to the stagnation of Muslim society in particular. Through his writings, Malek Bennabi wanted to awaken Muslim consciences and relaunch a renaissance of Muslim society.
