Undoubtedly, this book by Imam An-Nawawī is one of the books that have spread widely and enjoyed great popularity in the Muslim world. This book contains 42 hadiths, Imâm An-Nawawî brought together the major axes of the religion touching both the fundamental principles -al-usûl and the practical applications -al-furû' he said about his booklet: “every hadith in it is a fundamental rule of the religion, some scholars have described these hadith as the hub of islam, some said it is half of the religion, some said it is one third of it religion, as well as other qualifiers of this kind”. It is truly a blessed book, for which Allah has decreed popularity and expansion.

We crown this work with three comments. The first commentary is that of Imam An-Nawawî, the very author of this book. The second is that of Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-'Id. What characterizes these two classic commentaries are above all the linguistic explanations bearing on the one hand on the construction of the sentences and on the other hand on the meaning of the words, the hadiths and the stories of the pious predecessors. The third commentary is that of a great Hanbali scholar, Shaykh Ibn Sâlih Al-Uthaymîn. His commentary is inspired by the old commentaries and is in keeping with the spirit of our times. He gives a simple and easy explanation of each hadith, then he quotes the main lessons.

As for the canonical degree of each hadith and its references, we have not contented ourselves with the remarks of Imam An-Nawawi, but we have put notes comprising other references as well as the appreciations of the eminent scholar-muhaddith shaykh Nasir Ad-Din Al-Albânî drawn from his various books.
