Fasting represents a quarter of faith, because the Prophet said: "Fasting is half of patience and patience is half of faith" (Al-Bukhâri). It is also the only act of worship about which God says: "All that the child of Adam does is for himself except fasting, He is for Me and it is I who give the reward. He renounces for Me and it is I who give the reward for it. He renounces for Me his food, his drink and his carnal desires" (Al-Bukhâri)

The author raises, in this book, your following questions: Why do we not take advantage of fasting today? Why does the fasting of Ramadan no longer act on practitioners as it did on the first generations of Islam who saw in the fasting of this month a privileged moment allowing them to regenerate their spirituality, exposing them to the heavenly breaths and their clearing a path to divine gratifications?
