In the name of God, the Merciful, the Merciful

Praise be to Allah Lord of the worlds and may greetings and peace be upon our prophet Mohammad (ص) as well as on his companions and those who follow them: Here is the book at-tajwîd al-mousawwar (the illustrated tajwîd) that I present to the initiates of the Koran by asking Allah to make it the means to facilitate this science.

I tried to bring the most exact information and the most precise definitions by combining between the science of tajwid, phonology and acoustics while helping me with illustrations concerning the organs of articulation as well as colors distinguishing certain rules of tajweed from each other.

For better use for Quran schools and institutes, I have accompanied this book with QR CODE LINK containing all the sketches as well as animated images to highlight the sounds and what is happening inside the mouth when pronouncing letters. This work could not have been accomplished in this way without the help of Allah and then without the precious efforts of my dear brother the great professor Taysîr al'Arnad, may Allah preserve him and increase the community of his fellows. He put at the service of this work all his knowledge of calligraphy, drawing and sketches as well as his artistic taste allowing him to materialize concepts that I did not know how to describe since it happened inside the mouth. . Taysîr al'Arnad – may Allah preserve him – was able to reproduce them in the form of drawings and animated images highlighting rules that are difficult to explain.

It is important for me to recall here that the reception of the Holy Quran occurred in two forms: Oral reception and written reception. The first was received from our masters through oral transmission, the second was recorded by scholars in their various works and neither of these two forms can do without the other. This book as well as all tajweed works have the task of recording the rules and preserving the Quranic reception of pronunciation habits linked to dialects and different languages.

At the same time, this book cannot do without the supervision of a qualified master who initiates the student to the exact pronunciation of Arabic letters.

For more usefulness, I have added to the chapters of this book a theme concerning the different stages of the evolution of the spelling of the "moshaf" and its vocalization and another dealing with the learning of the Koran and important points concerning him.

I ask Allah to make this book useful and beneficial to Qur'an teachers and their students all over the world in order to achieve together the recitation approved by Allah and his Prophet, so as to preserve its reading as it has come down to us and to transmit it in the most precise way to future Muslim generations by following and not by innovating.

The scholar ibn al-Jazariy says in his work an-Nashr : "I know of no explanation for attaining the highest degree of perfecting reading, embellishing it and correcting it only at through the training of the language (the organ) and the repetition of the terms acquired through a qualified reader. At-tajwid is not the act of chewing the tongue, nor speaking from the throat, nor moving the jaw, nor trembling the voice, nor lengthening the accent, nor interspersing the lengthening, nor lengthening and vibrating the twang, nor contract the tongue when pronouncing the letter (ر). Such a reading would be against nature and unpleasant to listen to contrary to that which wants to be simple, pleasant and soft, without mumbling, without abuse or excess, so that it does not go against the language of the Arabs and their eloquence and that it be in conformity with the modes of the different readings.
