The translation of the two lectures presented in this collection will allow the French-speaking reader to discover Constantin Zureiq , a thinker of Arab unity and renaissance who has greatly influenced the contemporary Arab political and cultural scene. These translations will also participate in the rehabilitation of the Arab civilization so decried in the West in general and in France in particular.
Arab Civilization and Unity, by Constantin Zureiq, Héritage Editions
Born in Damascus, Constantin Zureiq (1909-2000) was one of the great figures of 20th century Arab thought. A thinker of Arab revival and unity, he traced political and cultural perspectives which, more than twenty years after his death, still mark the dynamics traversing the Arab nation. The translation of the two lectures presented in this collection will allow the French-speaking reader to discover an original Arab thinker who remains too little known in the French-speaking world. These translations will also participate in the rehabilitation of the Arab civilization so decried in the West in general and in France in particular. Finally, they will make it possible to take into account the proposals of a burning topicality to face the problems of an Arab nation increasingly fragmented by the centrifugal forces which cross it and by the action of Western imperialism.
