The adaptability and flexibility factors of the Islamic Sharia
In this book, the author Yusuf Al Qaradawi attempts to demonstrate the possible flexibility of Islamic sharia and its ability to cope with human evolutions and spatio-temporal changes.
To affirm that sharia is divine and religious remains an immutable truth. On the other hand, it turns out to be inaccurate to deduce that it would remain inflexible. Fantasy, ignorance and intolerance remain the main causes of this erroneous assertion. It is impossible for a learned and wise, just and merciful God, having closed the sending of his messengers, to reveal a universal and eternal sharia which would upset believers in the practice of their religion and oppress them in their lives here- down. Or a sharia which would prove incapable of coping with changes in the states and conditions of believers. Allah reveals his perfect religion. Through sharia, he wanted to install mercy and ease among Muslims and remove from them discomfort and difficulty.
How does Islamic sharia adapt to the events of past and future centuries and to multiple social environments? How can it deal with developments and deal with each innovation by distinguishing what appears to be beneficial to creation? How can it achieve the purposes of divine right? And finally, how can it do all this without neglecting the spirit of the century in which it unfolds?
