Dr. Chawqi Abu Khalil has undertaken a monumental and unprecedented task with his work entitled "The Atlas of the Quran", which explores in detail the characters, human groups and places mentioned in the Quran. Its objective is to enable readers to better understand the geographical space mentioned in the Koran, to understand its extent and to measure its importance. The author answers the questions for which we often have only an abstract vision, by seeking to locate places such as 'Âd, Thamûd, the dwellings of Madyan, the site of Sodom, as well as other places, characters or human groups mentioned in the Quran.

This original work, published in September 2000 by Éditions Sana in Arabic, has been carefully translated and adapted into French to maintain a high scientific level and remain faithful to the original work. With this in mind, the publisher called on Mohamed TENFOUR, expert geographer-cartographer, in charge of producing the French adaptation of the work.

"The Atlas of the Koran" is an unprecedented publication in its approach to the subject. This atlas offers the reader the possibility of better apprehending the geographical space evoked in the Koran, of understanding its extent and of measuring its importance. It answers questions for which we often have only an abstract vision, by seeking to locate or trace the traces of places, characters or human groups from reliable sources. We hope that this work will help to dispel any illusions or approximations concerning the precision of the geography mentioned in the sacred text.

The cartography of the French edition has been completely redone, completed and made more attractive. In particular, it uses a base map allowing better visualization of the relief of the Arabian Peninsula, Mesopotamia, Egypt and ancient Palestine, which are major sites of the events and subjects covered in the book.
