The flickering light descended within reach, but it remains elusive, and how pale in comparison with the star which emits it, and which shines, in the highest of the heavens, with a resplendent brilliance". “God proposed to me to change for me, into pure gold, all the pebbles around Mecca, and I answered him: “O Lord, only grant me to be hungry one day and to be satisfied the next day; the day when I am hungry, I will implore you, and the day when I am satisfied, I will thank you » What have I to do with the goods of this world? I am like a traveler stretching out in the shade of a tree; the sun, turning, joins him, and he leaves this tree never to return, O Lord! Let me die poor and raise me in the ranks of the poor!
