    DIVORCE : Causes - Consequences - Remedies

Author : Muhammad ibn Nasir Al-Humayid - Publisher : Ibn Badis

Islam ensures the establishment of a family that leads a noble life in the light of the principles of its magnificent legislation and the teaching of the best of creation, that of our Prophet Muhammad, son of 'Abd Allah, who embodies the supreme model for all humanity. Allah says (what means):
"You have a good example in the Messenger of Allah, a good example for him who hopes for the reward of Allah in this world and in the Hereafter and remembers His name often." (S.33, v.21)

Therefore, whoever desires to lead a happy married life must follow this straight path.

The haste in pronouncing repudiation in Muslim countries, due to causes that can be remedied, is among the sad facts. I have therefore considered it essential to analyze this phenomenon in light of its harmful consequences on society and on the believer, to seek its causes and to find remedies in the light of the teachings of Islam.

So I started to deal with this subject in a research work that I titled “Divorce: Causes, Consequences and Remedies” , asking Allah to make it easy for me to write and to make it beneficial, hoping that He will accept this work and that sensible people will put its content into practice.

First, I discussed how the Islamic religion has preserved marital life. Then, I listed and explained the benefits of marriage, and then I detailed the causes of divorce. To do this, I tried to provide a solution for each remediable problem, recalling the causes of divorce occurring on the side of the husband, the wife, the spouses' families, and then outsiders.

I outlined its consequences and then urged anyone who might be the cause. I discussed possible solutions after the divorce, such as a last attempt to mend the mess, bring the two parties together, and then reconcile them.

I recalled the behaviors that should be adopted in the event of divorce, according to the words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning):
"A man has the right to two repudiations. After each of them, the wife may be taken back in a suitable manner or released with respect." (S.2, v. 229)

Finally, I recalled the religious status of divorce.
