The Purification of the Soul (Friday Sermons), by Moncef Zenati, Revised and Expanded Edition

The human being is not this bodily envelope made up of flesh, blood, bones, nerves, systems and cells. All these things exist in the animal as they exist in man, the value of the human being resides in this spiritual essence which distinguishes him from the animal and which made him a human being; the soul, that essence, because of which God asked the Angels to prostrate themselves before the human being as a testimony of his honour.

This is why the purification of the soul is an obligation for every Muslim and every Muslim. Without this spiritual purification, the individual's Islam is reduced to mere soulless rites. Perhaps even the practice of the external rites of Islam becomes the pretext for nourishing and serving one's passions, like the one who exercises his arrogance, his jealousy, his contempt, his hatred, his love of prestige on others through what he accomplishes as religious activities.

The Islam of a person without spiritual purification is nothing but bark in the colors of Islam which hides the worst faults, the worst illnesses of the soul and the worst perverse passions that Islam has come to eradicate.

It is, of course, a long and difficult road. To go through it to the end, it is necessary to stop at spiritual purification stations and go through stages. These stations and stages are numerous, this work evokes the most important and most fundamental stations along the route towards God, towards the satisfaction of God, towards Paradise.
