The importance of humility in prayer is felt in two aspects: The first is that it perfects prayer and is its very essence. Humility means the presence of the heart, namely, when the person prays, recites, bows and prostrates, he keeps in mind that he is in this great adoration. She must not do these things when her heart is elsewhere. The second is that humility in prayer increases the reward. Allah, Mighty and Exalted, has certainly praised those who are humble in their prayer.
Humility in Prayer, by Al-Hafiz ibn Rajab al-Hanbali
“The importance of humility in prayer is felt in two aspects: The first is that it perfects prayer and is its very essence.
As for what helps humility: that the person completely releases his heart when he is about to pray and that he feels that he is standing before Allah, Mighty and High be He, and may Allah, Mighty and High be He, knows what is in his heart, just as he knows the movements of his body. He is not like kings: it is possible to stand before a king by standing well, seemingly, while the heart is in another place, while the king ignores it. On the contrary, Allah, Mighty and High be He, knows what is apparent from you, as well as what is hidden. So feel that you stand before Allah.” Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-`Uthaymīn (d. 1421 H.), Liqā' al-bāb al-maftūḥ.
