The science of hadith, known in Arabic as ilm al-ḥadīth", represents in Islam a set of disciplines whose objective is the analysis of hadiths. This religious branch has developed a specific method for evaluating the veracity of traditions attributed to Muhammad, by examining both their content, called matn, as well as the chain of transmission, known as isnâd, with a view to classifying them according to their degree of authenticity.
