Allah has ordered us in His Book to supplicate in favor of the deceased. The Prophet (sws) also recommended that we invoke and ask for forgiveness on behalf of our dead to relieve them of the situation in which they find themselves, or to enable them to rise to higher degrees thanks to our invocations. Invocation is a religious act of great importance which must be dedicated only to Allah Alone.
