In the terminological sense, the isti'âdha consists in pronouncing the formula: " I seek refuge with God" ( A'ûdhu billâh ) which means to have recourse to God the Most High to protect oneself from the evil of all harmful things. Thus one can ask for God's protection against the Devil, but also against all sorts of evils. One takes refuge in God, one flees towards Him to protect oneself against all that one fears, dreads, whether it is a question of the evils relating to this world or to the last life.

The purpose of this book is to make available to the reader the requests for protection formulated by the Messenger of God ( saw ) on different occasions or which he recommended to his Companions to pronounce to preserve themselves from harmful creatures or things. .
