Envy was the first sin committed in heaven as on earth. It was indeed envy that was the cause of Satan's damnation and downfall and that drove Cain to kill his brother Abel. Hence its seriousness. To prevent envy is above all to teach children not to envy people and to fight within them this moral defect which confines the individual to a state of permanent dissatisfaction and complaint and which destroys his spiritual and temporal development.
