Imam Abu Ja'far al-Tahawi (239-321H), famous Hanafi jurist. Originally from Taha in Lower Egypt, he studied under the direction of more than three hundred masters. He first studied Shafi'i jurisprudence under the guidance of his maternal uncle al-Mazini, one of the disciples of Imam al-Shafi'i. Subsequently, he followed the Hanafi rite and wrote, in particular, Ahkam al-Qur'an (Treatise on the Koranic sciences), Sharh ma'ani al-'athar (Explanation of the meaning of the hadiths).
