The fables in this collection were taken from Mesnevi and abridged. Le Mesnevi is a literary masterpiece composed by Mawlana Djalaladdin Roumi, a great Sufi master of the 13th century and currently one of the most widely read poets in the West. It represents one of the cornerstones of the cultures of the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia. The Mesnevi was a call for unity and virtue in a world of conflict, war and migration. It emphasizes human virtue and the development of spiritual insight into the heart.
The way events and situations are interpreted in the tales reflects the very rich and lively literary and cultural heritage of the Orient. At the end of each story, the author speaks to his own heart, drawing attention to just one of the wisdoms the fable contains and leaving the others guessing. Readers young and old will enjoy reading these tales while discovering a new way of seeing the world.
