Without seeking to impose any orthodoxizing classical scholastic vision where theological opinions would be systematically decided, Tareq OUBROU exposes in this treatise on at-Tawhîd information in order to understand and grasp the subtleties of this cardinal dogma which is Uniqueness. The whole of this treatise contains theological choices which will appear more or less explicitly throughout the various opuscules. They are however left to the intelligence of the reader who will be able to recognize certain classic aspects and discover new approaches and aspects.

There is a common thread that will take the reader through a course at several levels, through different subjects and approaches, which may seem discreet to him, while they are part of an overall vision in the service of the same problem. . This apparent intellectual discontinuity will allow him, nevertheless, to read a subject or to adhere to an approach independently of the others, according to his affinity, his training and his intellectual level.

The general spirit of the book reflects a permanent tension between pedagogical simplification on the one hand, and the nature of the subject which requires multiple and varied intellectual tools and a complex theological approach, on the other hand.

This treatise is also intended to be a critical and eclectic vision of this colossal theological heritage bequeathed by all the tendencies of Muslim dogmatics: from the corporalists (al-mudjassima) to the negationists of the Attributes (al-mu´attila), passing by the dialectical hermeneutics (al-mu´awwila) and abstentionists (al-mutawaqqifa), who refuse any interpretation.

In his approach, the author opts for the suggestion of a “plastic orthodoxy”, or even of a “minimalist orthodoxy”, which would be a flexible, but sure, base for a mobile theology.
