The Battle of Poitiers - The Story of a Myth, by Charafeddine Mouslim
The Muslim presence in Gallic territory remains one of the least known pages in the history of medieval France. The collective memory has retained of this presence only the conflicting aspect: the battle of Poitiers, a banal event that some historians consider among the thirty days that made France.
This book is the result of a work of scientific research which led to the deconstruction of this myth of the battle of Poitiers. As part of his doctoral thesis, the writer revisits the history of this Muslim presence in Gallic land. A rich and fascinating subject. A presence that traces the story of an encounter between two shores, two religions, two civilizations. In the High Middle Ages, as in the Low Middle Ages, in Septimania, as in Provence, under Muslim authority as under Christian authority, the exchange was rich and living together was often almost exemplary.
