This book is aimed at an audience of high school students, students and adults wishing to acquire a sufficient command of modern Arabic to read and understand newspapers, magazines and books. This manual offers practical, methodical and complete learning of the language, and can also be used for vocabulary enrichment or as a complete course for consolidating grammatical knowledge. It can be used by isolated learners (who will have answers, exercises) or in an educational institution; the teacher will be able to adapt the progression to the needs and level of his class. By listening to the CD on which all the texts of the lessons are recorded, the learner will be able to familiarize himself with the pronunciation, read the texts aloud, and acquire thus a true spoken practice of the Arabic language.

The method includes 45 lessons, the first 5 being for learning to write and read, the following for the acquisition of grammar and vocabularies of daily life and the media.

Each chapter opens with an introductory text whose vocabulary is explained (meaning and morphology) and reused three times during the following lessons. This is followed by the study of one or two grammatical notions taken from the text, then application exercises and translation-translation into French of the introductory text, translation into Arabic of a short text-both aiming to reinvest the knowledge of the lesson, (vocabulary and grammar).

The answers to the exercises appear at the end of the manual as well as two lexicons, Arabic/French and French/Arabic and an index of the grammatical question.

The authors have ensured that the presentation is clear, the language and terminology simple and accessible to all.
