EXTRACT FROM THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BOOK
Scholars have composed numerous books on the subject of hadiths (arba'ûn), the most famous of which is "The forty hadiths of An-Nawawî" (al-arba'ûn an-nawawiyyah), which are forty hadiths of the Prophet selected by Imam An-Nawawi - may Allah have mercy on him - so that students memorize them and learn about the teachings they contain. Among the other books which have as their subject forty hadiths, there are "The forty hadiths on the proofs of monotheism" (al-arba'ûn dala'il at-tawhîd) by Al-Harawî, "The forty hadiths on Allah" (al-arba'ûn al-ilâhiyyah) by Ibn al-Mufađđal, "The forty hadiths on the countries" (al-arba'ûn al-buldâniyyah) by Ibn 'Asâkir and others. For my part, Allah honored me to bring together forty short hadiths touching on various religious themes, with the aim that our children would read them and learn. I titled this book “The forty hadiths explained to children” (al-arba'ûn al-wildâniyyah), since the themes they address are aimed at children (wildân). All these hadiths are part of the authentic hadiths, either those reported by the two noble imams Al-Bukhari and Muslim, or those reported by one of the two - may Allah have mercy on them. I explained each of the forty hadiths intended for children so that the desired meaning was made explicit, and I took care to be concise and clear, using, wherever possible, only simple terms. Wildân is the plural of walad which is a term designating both a boy and a girl. Indeed, Allah says: “Here is what Allah enjoins upon you concerning your children: to the son, a share equivalent to that of two daughters” [Surah An-Nisa': 11]. The term wildân is a noble term which appears more than once in the Quran.
