The ahadîth are the facts and sayings of the Prophet Mohammad reported and transmitted by sincere Muslims. The “Sciences of the hadith” consist in studying the authenticity, the validity, the defect, the weakness of each hadith and thus defining rules and definitions. Scholars have shown extreme severity in the treatment and standardization of hadith; never has a science, in the whole world and at any time, known such rigour. An essential book.
Title: Summary of the sciences of Hadith
Author: Mahmoud at-Tahhan
Theme: The HADITH
Description: The primary basis of Legislation in Islam is the Quran, revealed by God to His Prophet Mohammad. This Legislation is completed by all the words, deeds and acquiescences of the Prophet which are gathered under the name of sunna. More particularly, the words of the Prophet reported and transmitted to Muslims constitute what are called hadîth; they explain, among other things, in a clear and explicit way the Koran. However, it proved necessary, especially by the force of time and the failure of certain transmitters, to check all the words (hadîth), to process them with vigilance and to ensure transmission. The sciences relating to the hadith and their mastery, how they were transmitted and reported, then developed; this led to the enunciation of specific rules and definitions, with a view to safeguarding the accuracy of their transmission and enunciation, thus excluding the falsification and transformation of deformers. Scholars have shown extreme severity in the treatment and standardization of hadith in order to establish their authenticity, validity, fault, weakness, even inadmissibility. Never has a science known such rigor. They classified each transmitter according to the degree of its accuracy, they studied in detail the statement of the transmitted information, in order to accept or refuse the hadîth. Focusing on their study is therefore of the utmost importance for understanding Islam. In a simplified style, this book aims to be a clear scientific approach, without complexity or obscurity. He studies both the quality of transmitters, the chain of transmitters and the statement of information, while illustrating his remarks with explanatory examples.
