Introduction to the Sahih

Al-Bukhârî's work begins with the hadith: “Acts are evaluated only according to the intentions that inspire them. Each one obtains from his work only the value of his intention. This saying of the Prophet (tee_'',)- is regarded as one of the most important tenets of Islam. It is considered as one of the four fundamental doctrines which served as pivots to Islam (madâr al-islâm). It serves as an introduction to the Sahîh of al-Bukhâri: It measures the moral value of any religious act, according to the intention that presided over the action.

The Sahîh of al-Bukhârî: how is it designed?

The very first mousannaf (classifier) that stood out bears the mark of the mission for which it was intended. That is to say that al-Bukhârî was the first who united - with Muslim, - who comes after him - only the able-bodied.

These two collections are the two surest books in validity after the Koran. And, to confirm this truth, the scholar al-Irâgî writes in his Alfiyya

“The first who composed the .Sahîh

was Mohammad` (al-Bukhârî), and he had the pre-eminence, then Muslim, but certain North Africans

prefer Abi 'Ali for his usefulness). »

The Sahîh of al-Bukhâri surpasses the others in validity and its author has shown wide knowledge with regard to the details and defects of the chains of transmitters. As a result, Muslim was considered his pupil and his disciple, who never ceased to profit from his science and to follow in his footsteps to the point that ad-Dâraqoutnî said: "Without al-Bukhâri, there would be no had no Muslim”.
