Tafsir Al-Qurtubî (Volume 1): Surah Al-Fatiha
Editor's note on the cover
Is it necessary to present the tafsîr of al-Qurtubi, one of the most voluminous, complete and popular commentaries on the Qur'ân? In his masterwork in the field of Koranic exegesis, the great Andalusian scholar Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qurtubî seeks first – within the framework of a jurisprudential approach – to expose the rules and judgments drawn from the Book of Allah . The author, relying on his deep mastery of the Arabic language, however, also offers an in-depth linguistic and grammatical analysis of the verses and their meanings, while frequently calling on hadîths to explain and contextualize the Word of Allah.
About the author: Abû 'Abd Allâh Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qurtubî – Died in 671AH (1273)
A native of Qurtubah (Cordoba) before having to take the road of exile and ending his life in Egypt, al-Qurtubî was one of the most renowned Malikite scholars in History. A very talented jurist, exegete and muhaddîth, known for his impeccable personal ethics, he is particularly famous for his eminent tafsîr, one of the most voluminous, complete and popular Koranic commentaries.
