Around the world, statistics and studies speak for themselves. We get married later and later, we have children later and later. In many societies, people are also getting married less and less often.
Among Muslims, the phenomenon of late marriage is taking on a worrying scale and concerns believers from different strata of society. The reasons are many and complex. Thus , it would be simplistic to think that this phenomenon has its origin in a single factor, namely the following of passions , as we too often hear.
Our author takes the opposite view of this binary vision and shows, through this serious and extensive work, that late marriage is the consequence of socio-economic, customary, psychological factors, etc. She also explains that most people who grow old single are victims first, not culprits to be castigated.
However, Rana al-Sha'âr does not just denounce. It also offers solutions and remedies to counterbalance this harmful trend and put young marriage and its benefits back on the agenda. An essential book therefore about a very widespread subject, but very little studied.
