Allah has commanded His servants to work in order to acquire their subsistence and to this end, He has made lawful for them the acquisition of goods useful for the satisfaction of their interests, the stability of their societies, the growth of their savings, in short of all that is likely to assure them the good in the present life and in the hereafter. On the other hand, he forbade them dishonest gains and illicit transactions which corrupt the mores of the individual, destroy the structure of society and ultimately affect the economy. Among the transactions authorized and encouraged by Allah, trade occupies the first place, while usury is one of those which He most severely condemns. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad.
