Al-Hasan ibn 'Alî: His personality and his times - Dr Ali M Sallabi- Series devoted to the history of Islam Part II (The Rightly Guided Caliphs 5)

The detailed biography of al-Hasan ibn 'Ali , a model for all, young and old . Al-Hasan was brought up under the guidance of his grandfather, the Messenger of Allah ( saw ) , at the same time as his noble parents Fatima az-Zahra ' and 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them) .

The life of al-Hasan ibn ' Ali demonstrates that the highest priority must be given to the unity of the Muslim community. This is an important lesson offered to leaders of any age. It is sometimes essential to graciously yield and surrender positions of power and authority for the good of the Ummah . By leaving the caliphate to Mu'âwiyya , al-Hasan clearly demonstrated that the differences between Muslims were only political. Even though the Muslims fought each other, they continued to consider each other brothers and sisters in the faith.

Al-Hasan's life is an example for all Muslims and especially for Muslim leaders . It shows us that we should be willing to leave behind the ornaments of this world for the satisfaction of Allah, the Most High .
