The description of Allah among Muslim traditionalists, by al-Athari
The description presented here is that of the traditionalists (Ahl al-hadith) Muslims, and which is based on the Koran and the Sunnah. If this reading of the Tests which deal with the description of Allah, is literal, it nevertheless responds to a sine-qua-none condition: to believe that God cannot be compared to creatures.
The description of Allah among Muslim traditionalists, by Ibn Sulayman al-Athari
The description varies according to the religious currents; thus there is anthropomorphism and its opposite, rational representation (based on human reason), the purely literal reading of the Texts and the esoteric reading.
The one we present here is that of the Muslim traditionalists (Ahl la-hadith), which is based on the Koran and the Sunnah.
If this reading of the Texts which deal with the description of Allah, is literal, it nevertheless responds to a sine-qua-none condition: to believe that God cannot be compared to creatures. The representation of Allah adopted by traditionalists is based solely on Tradition; it is located in a happy medium between that of the anthropomorphists and that of the deniers of any description of the creator.
This book is based on two major chapters:
I) Description of the Divine Essence (dhat)
II) God's relationship with creatures
