Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb, alias Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn "al-Malik al-Nāṣir Abū l-Muẓaffar", is perhaps the best-known political and military figure of the Islamic era. Sultan of Egypt, “good prince” among the Saracens, he entered history above all for having recaptured the holy city of Jerusalem from the Crusaders.
