What are good and evil, lawful and unlawful? How to determine “good behavior” and a sense of virtue? Just as in Western thought, ethical concern is central in the Islamic tradition. To understand what this notion covers, it is important to delve into the history of Muslim thought. A perspective that makes it possible to link the question of values and morality to legal (fiqh), mystical (Sufism) and philosophical (kal m) reflections. Which determine the “good” and the “bad” at the heart of the Islam, and how? Should we refer primarily to scriptural sources (Koran and prophetic traditions)? Has reason nothing to add? How do Islamic ethics apply in the fields of medicine, economics, environment, psychology, education, arts? And how can it be linked to other religious and philosophical traditions? At the crossroads of law, faith and science, this work of synthesis opens a clear and rigorous way of access to the essence of the debates that gave substance to ethics. Islamic.
