Biographical outline on al-Hafiz al-Mundiri (581-656 AH)

This is Imam al-Hafiz (who knows the hadiths by heart), known as Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-'Azim Ben 'Abd-al-Qawiy al-Mundiri, the reporter of the prophetic tradition, who lived from first in Syria and then in Egypt. He was born in the month of Sha'ban in the year 581 H. He received his juriscprudential education from Imam Abu al-Qasim 'Abd-ar-Rahman Ben Muhammad al-Qurachî al-Warâq.

He then learned the tradition of the Prophet from Abu 'Abdullah al-Aryami, then from the great scholar in the field, 'Ali Ben al-Mufadhal al-Maqdisi, thus completing his studies.

He traveled, then to Mecca where he studied hadith with Abu Abdullah Ben al-Banna and in Damascus, Huran, ar-Raha, Alexandria, etc.

Her works:

He was the author of an explanatory work of the book entitled "at-tanbih", a precis of the "Sunan Abi Dawud" with notes and comments, the precis also of the "Sahih Muslim". He also wrote his own large collection.

Among his disciples are ad-Demyati, Imam Taqi ad-Din Ben Daqiqal-'id, al-Sharif 'Iz ad-Din and a good number of Ulemas.

Ad-Dahabi says that no one of his time equaled him in knowledge of Hadith. Al-Munderi died in the year 656 AH.
