The characteristics of the servants of the All-Merciful, from 'Abd Ar-Razzâq ibn 'Abd Al-Muhsin Al-Badr

Certainly, the status of Allah's bondage is of great importance. It is even one of the noblest statuses with which Allah, high be he, praises his prophets and allies. And he annexed his followers to him in many verses to honor them and elevate their status. Certainly, Allah Exalted be He, has mentioned many descriptions and blessed characteristics about those who have this noble status, in many texts. This is for the Muslim to strive to adorn himself with them and to act upon them, in order to obtain high status, and great honor with the Lord of the universe. Among the most apparent passages in which Allah mentions the characteristics of His believing servants in one context is what is found at the end of Surah Al-Furqän in which He mentioned eight characteristics. He, exalted be He, began them with [meaning of the verse): "The servants of the All-Merciful are those who walk humbly on earth..." (Qur'an: Al-Furqän, 63).

This shows the greatness of their distinction because of what this Name indicates as aspects of Mercy. Thus, it was by His Mercy that He guided them to faith and uplifted them in obedience to the All-Merciful, as well as in drawing close to Him, exalted be He. It is appropriate for any Muslim, seeking the salvation of his soul as well as his happiness, to meditate on the characteristics of the servants of the All Micordious. Thus, it is by His Mercy that are reported in this blessed passage, to know them well, and then to see to concretizing them to perfection.
