Chronicle of Tabari - Stories of the Prophets and Kings (From Creation to Last Revelation), by Muhammad ibn Jarir ibn Al-Tabari (Hardcover)

Abou Ja'far Mohammad Ibn Jarîr Ibn Yazîd Tabarî is the first Muslim who composed a general chronicle. Born in 224 of the Hegira (838-839 AD) he spent most of his life in Baghdad.

A few years before his death, he composed his voluminous chronicle, which embraces the history of the world from the creation to the year 302 of the Hegira. This book early acquired a great reputation in the Muslim world. Around 352 of the Hegira (963 AD).

The Chronicle of Tabari, from which the main Eastern historians have drawn, offers, even in its abbreviated form, a great interest for the study of the history of the East. It is certain that for some periods, as, for example, for the history of the Omayyads, it remains the most precious source of our knowledge: and even those parts of it which are devoid of criticism and of any historical value, such as the fables relating to ancient history are not lacking in interest, for they contain that crowd of legends to which all the Muslim authors make allusions, and which the European reader is often very embarrassed to find, while Tabari gives them to us within a framework that makes research singularly easy.
