Hadith scholars define the sunnah of the Messenger ( saws ) and his hadiths as follows: "All that is attributed to the Prophet ( saws ) , whether it be a word, deed, an endorsement, or of a description concerning his physical constitution, behavior or ethics. " This definition encompasses all that has been authentically reported from the companions of the Messenger ( saws ) regarding the remarkable physical characteristics on which Allah has creates, as well as the eminent behaviors with which Allah has granted him to adorn himself.

These distinguished characters and eminent behaviors have been recorded in the various collections of the Sunna, as well as in works dedicated to this theme. The most famous work on this subject is kitâb As-shamâ''il by Imam At-Tirmidhi , the author of the famous collection of hadiths entitled al-Jâmî, who died in the year 279 of the Hegira, qu 'Allah have mercy on him. It is an eminent and important reference in this theme and that is why, at all times, the followers of the hadith have given it great attention.
