Title: The Sunnah of the Prophet
Author: Yusuf al-Qaradawi
Publisher: ALQALAM
Medium: Book
Theme: Student Library
Description: Since the dawn of Islam, Muslims have relied on the Sunnah of the Prophet (saas) together with the Quran, according to rules known to jurists and scholars of legal interpretation. All Muslims know that this is an obvious basis of their religion. The Sunna is the second source of reference in Islam after the Koran, both at the legal and legislative level, and at the level of preaching, education and moral orientation. The question of understanding the Sunnah, the methodology of its study, the analysis of all its aspects and how to make it the source of Islamic knowledge, civilization and culture, is considered one of the main questions facing Muslim thought. It is therefore a question of defining the rules and criteria necessary for a fair understanding of the Sunna, far from the constraints imposed by those who stick to the letter of the texts without understanding their objectives, far also from the dissipation of the so-called scholars who argue irrelevant. This work essentially emphasizes the fundamental principles which must govern the relations of Muslims to the Sunnah. It exposes the question of understanding the Sunnah, the in-depth study of the rules, criteria and conditions on which this understanding must be based, the explanation of the causes which have sometimes led to differences of interpretation and confusion, the origin of the crisis of understanding of the Sunnah, its factors, the analysis of the complex issues whose confusion has further aggravated this crisis and the link between this crisis of understanding and the emergence of the debate on the legal value of the sunnah. The author adopts a scientific approach, relies only on authentic or good hadîth, and refers only to renowned scholars of Islam to benefit from their knowledge. The different points discussed are illustrated with numerous examples in order to be completely clear to the reader. This book tends to restore the "happy medium", far from the distortions of those who fall into excess, from the interpretation of the ignorant.
