`Imâd ad-Dîn abû al-Fidâ' 'Ismâ`îl ben `Umar ben Kathîr or Ibn Kathîr, Muslim Arab jurist and historian, born in 1301 in Bosra in southern Syria. Ibn Kathir died in February 1373 in Damascus. Ibn Kathîr is the author of a commentary on the Exegesis of the Noble Quran (tafsir). Ibn Kathir relates the verses of the Noble Qur'an to the hadiths of the sunnah. The commentary on the Koran by Ibn Kathîr is famous and one of the most widespread.
