ABU BAKR: The First Caliph of Islam.

        Taken from the book

        Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihayah of ibn Kathir

Compiled by Dr. Muhammad Ibn Samil As-Sulami

Professor of History of Islam at the University of Mecca

Abu Bakr the truthful, as-siddiq, successor of the prophet, is the first man to be converted. The first caliph of Islam. He is also the first of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. This blessed time predicted by the Messenger of Allah as being in accordance with the prophetic way. Find here his life, his merits, his accession to power, and the events that took place under his caliphate, after the death of the prophet. And, in particular, the movements of apostasy and the conquests of Iraq and Shâm. This book is taken from the encyclopedia entitled Al-Bidâya Wan-Nihâya which, as its name suggests, traces the history of creation from its beginning to the end of time. Its authentic sources and its scientific rigor make it a work of reference and unanimity within the community. It must be said that its author, Hâfidh ibn Kathîr, needs no introduction. It is from this same encyclopedia that the stories of the prophets or the sira of the messenger are taken.

Daralmuslim editions are therefore pleased to present to you the first book in the four-part series called "the four rightly guided caliphs" retracing the history of Islam from the death of the prophet to the year 41 of the Hegira. To follow, in the same series, the caliphs 'Umar ibn Al-Khattâb, 'Uthmân ibn 'Affân and 'Ali ibn Abi Tâlib, may Allah be pleased with them.
