Over the centuries, eminent authors from all walks of life have written about Islam and its Prophet (saw). To bear witness to this literary heritage, three texts have been selected by the editor of this work. The first is Muhammad Hamiddulah's translation of a sublime poem by Jagan Nath Azad, a Hindu writer. The second is by Alphonse de Lamartine. Finally, the last text of this collection is that of Victor Hugo, where he takes the reader on a journey through time, inviting him to witness the last moments of the prophet (saws).
Authors: Jagan Nath Azad, Alphonse de Lamartine, Victor Hugo - Editions: Héritage
Editor's note on the cover
We know Alphonse de Lamartine (d. 1869) and Thomas Carlyle (d. 1881) who, without being Muslims, wrote very beautiful and famous pages on Muhammad, Prophet of Islam (d. 632). But Westerners do not have a monopoly on broad-mindedness. The tension is no less great between Hindus and Muslims, for historical reasons. The little collection that we are presenting to French-speaking readers shows that in the Orient too, there are people capable of rising above the petty prejudices of common people.
