the interest in al-Ghazali's work grew as the great educational needs of Islam in France became clearer. Thus several chapters of the ihya were the subject of more or less careful translations. Bousquet wished to see the work of the team brought together by him continued until a neat French translation of the entire ihya was obtained. But the evolution of Islamic studies during the end of the colonial period prevented the realization of this great project.
