In the spring of 2001, I was led to co-host a conference on conversions to Islam. The enthusiasm that this theme aroused with the public encouraged me to engage in a work of collection of testimonies of which this work is the fruit.

You are offered here to immerse yourself in stories of conversion to Islam. These people, who one day became Muslims, tell us the facts and circumstances that led them to make this choice.

In often difficult contexts, they returned to the Muslim religion in all conscience. Faith and reason were their main tools. They knew how to go beyond prejudices, preconceptions and the incessant media hype about Islam and Muslims. Faced with the growing scale of the number of conversions to Islam, not only in the West but also everywhere else in the world, it became urgent to put the spotlight on these "white" Muslims, to give them the speaking in order to understand their approaches and their motivations. Simply, without establishing sociological study as it can exist here or there.

This book also proposes, modestly, to help break down the prejudices and false opinions conveyed about Islam and Muslims.

Hafète HIMI, is of Muslim faith, He was a journalist in a weekly and in two regional dailies. He is also a writer: "Why did they become Muslims?" is his first work.
