The Gospel according to Barnabas:

In Christian tradition, Barnabas was not one of the Twelve Apostles, but a disciple of Paul of Tarsus. The latter would have presented him to the Apostles (Acts 9,27) who entrusted him with evangelization tasks in the company of Paul. His name was Joseph, he was a Levite from Cyprus.

Barnabas was a nickname meaning "son of the Prophet" (Bar-Nébi or Ben-Nébi). He evangelized Syria and Greece with Paul. He accompanied Paul to Antioch, Jerusalem, Perge and Lystra in particular. He was then in disagreement with Paul during the "incident of Antioch" concerning the practice of circumcision which Paul wanted to abandon despite Peter's reluctance.

An apocryphal Epistle and a Maxim are also attributed to him, and a late fifth-century apocryphal text recounts his martyrdom at Salamis (Acts and Martyrdom of Barnabas in Cyprus)

.The Gospel of Barnabas (considered a late apocryphal by the Church) presents Barnabas as one of the twelve apostles.
